Issue #22
June 6, 1999

Dear Friends and Family,
It is hard to believe that we are already a week into June. There are only four weeks of school. The end of school events are already beginning. These events are very important because closure is very important to the life of an MK since so many people come and go in their lives. When school ends, a lot of people will never see each other again.

There is great news from this week. I have mentioned the new Japanese girl, Mahoko, who joined my class this trimester. Before she joined the class I mentioned to them that she was probably not a Christian and that they should be good witnesses to her. This week, Arielle (my class) and Grace (4th grader) witnessed to Mahoko one day after school, and she accepted Christ. Two other girls from my class had also been witnessing to her, Emily and Abby. I was thrilled to her this news and excited for the girls to take the initiative on their own. Abby is doing a Bible study with Mahoko on Tuesday's after school. Continue to pray for Mahoko. She is still a bit shy about her decision. I think her mom is Christian, but her father is not.

This Friday night was our annual 3rd Grade Slumber Party. It was a lot of fun. The kids were so excited. I was surprised we got anything done in school on Friday, but actually they got all of their work done early. The boys were supposed to stay out in the tent, but since we had a "little" rainstorm they got moved into Alan and Serge's apartment downstairs. They would have been sleeping in a couple of inches of water in the tent. They didn't mind this though because they got to play Nintendo. The girls were excited to stay in my room because there was an air conditioner. Because of the storm, it was cool and there was no need for it. They still insisted even though I told them they would freeze. They were all freezing during the night, but no one would admit to it. I finally turned it off.

Friday night was also the Junior/Senior Banquet. The rain caused them some problems as well. It was supposed to take place outside. When the storm hit, there had to be a quick change of plans and stuff moved quickly around. I think everyone still enjoyed it though.

Tonight they are having a surprise retirement program for a dorm assistant who is retiring after something like 19 years at the school. The elementary choir is singing a song for it, so we spent this week preparing for it. Getting the kids the keep the secret was the big task. I don't think anyone let it slip, but I wouldn't be too surprised if they did. Getting 51 kids to keep a secret is no easy task.

Hope you all have a great week! I'm sure we will here as we hit the ground running.

In Christ,
Traci
